Passive and Active Rehabilitation Programs
When a patient initially enters our office, their first thought is normally only about getting rid of the pain that brought them into our office in the first place. This is understandable. That is why your first couple of treatments will consist of gentle chiropractic adjustments and “Passive” therapies aimed toward reducing pain and inflammation. Our Passive Rehabilitation program utilizes treatments such as electrical muscle stimulation (EMS), cold laser, heat or ice, massage and intersegmental traction.
Once your pain begins to subside, studies have shown that “Active” therapies will help you to heal faster. Our Active Rehabilitation programs include stretching, strengthening and tractioning protocols designed with your specific needs and abilities in mind. Our highly trained therapists will work closely with the doctor to make sure you receive the greatest benefit from your time in our office.
Studies have shown that the utilization of passive and active therapies help reduce pain, speed healing and stabilize your condition by restoring integrity to the muscles, tendons and ligaments which support your joints. When used in conjunction with your adjustments, physiotherapy ads another dimension to your healing process and increases the benefits that each of these would have on there own. Think of our Passive and Active Rehabilitation programs as the “cement” that holds your adjustment in place.
If there are abnormal curvature changes in your spine such as scoliosis, kyphosis or a hypolordosis, then your active therapy will be designed to help begin the restoration of these aberrant curves back toward a more normal position. You will be taught the proper protocols and given any tools necessary so that you will be able to begin performing these protocols at home. In doing so, you will be able to speed up the time of your recovery and corrective program.
Our ultimate goal is always to empower you to take control of your health by giving you the tools necessary to help you regain and maintain optimal health levels. The response you get from any treatment program is directly related to the commitment you give to that program. Of course, we will always be there whenever necessary to help guide you on this journey.
